Poem 19
Destroy the men of wisdom
Stop teachers in their tracks
Let the people go to their homes
Without the fear of right and wrong
They know what they must do
They do what they know
They want their bellies filled
They want their children covered at night
Banish the profiteers
Abolish the need for judiciality
Then the people will go their Way
Knowing what is correct what is incorrect
They will not be concerned with the outcome of misdeeds
None will exist
Commentary
Most people are not interested in the sayings of the supposed great and wise men of ancient times or in the opinions of modern sages. People are interested only in being able to live their lives without difficulty while enjoying the fruits of their labors. That is wisdom enough for any man. When others seek to impose rules and regulations, the free man will by his very nature seek to overthrow the authority that he did not desire in the first place. He does this in ways of silence and in ways of noise. Kings would be wise to understand the need to govern from afar if in fact they have to govern at all. Ignorance is indeed bliss and should never be based on what another decides is yet ignorance of others.
